San Diego was once considered a bargain relative to other real estate markets in California. Although it is generally more affordable than the Bay Area and Los Angeles, the margins have tightened. The many advantages of living in San Diego have prompted countless homebuyers to move here. That trend accelerated during the pandemic as remote work became more in vogue, and buyers from within and outside of California sought out our great southern California lifestyle and idyllic weather. Those trends and San Diego’s continued popularity have contributed to some expensive zip codes. If you are curious about the most expensive zip codes in San Diego, and what home prices are like in each, please read on.
The following seven San Diego zip codes represent the most expensive zip codes in the county, based on MLS data calculated through August 2024. The list below includes details on each ranked San Diego neighborhood and the year-to-date median sales price. This data is focused on single-family homes. If you look at condos and townhomes separately, many of these zip codes still rank in the top seven, although in a slightly different order. Without further ado, here are the top seven most expensive zip codes in San Diego, followed by details on each of the neighborhoods.
#1 – Rancho Santa Fe – $4,466,500
Rancho Santa Fe’s 92067 zip code stands far above any San Diego County Zip Code when it comes to the most expensive single-family homes. Given that Rancho Santa Fe is often found among the most expensive neighborhoods in the country, it’s not surprising it ranks at the top of this list. Rancho Santa Fe’s sprawling estates command a premium and are unlike the homes in any neighborhood in San Diego.

#2 – La Jolla – $3,394,000
Those who know San Diego, won’t be surprised to find La Jolla’s 92037 zip code at the top of our rankings for the most expensive zip codes in San Diego. La Jolla’s quaint seaside charm and dramatic oceanview estates push it into the number two position, albeit at a full million dollars less than Rancho Santa Fe’s number.

#3 – Del Mar – $3,300,000
Like La Jolla, Del Mar (92014 zip code) is known for its luxury real estate offerings and seaside charm. It ranks just slightly below La Jolla currently, however, it’s often in the top two depending on recent market activity.
#4 – Rancho Santa Fe – $3,200,000
Although most of Rancho Santa Fe is represented in the number one ranked 92067 zip code, a second zip code (92091) serves some of the outlying portions of Rancho Santa Fe. This particular part of Rancho Santa Fe accounts for far fewer transactions than 92037. Nonetheless, the neighborhood’s overall make-up of luxury, large homes, and large parcels lands it in the number four position on our list.

#5 – Coronado – $2,997,000
Coronado’s 92118 zip code ranks in the fifth position, at just under a $3,000,000 median sales price for single-family homes. Coronado is known for its luxurious homes, ocean and bayfront estates, and smaller-town feel. Given it is referred to frequently as an island (technically it’s a peninsula), the area’s tight boundaries keep available homes here selling at a premium.

#6 – Solana Beach – $2,700,000
Solana Beach may not have some of the name recognition areas like La Jolla and Coronado enjoy, the Solana Beach zip code 92075 is home to many amazing oceanfront and ocean-adjacent luxury homes.
#7 – Carmel Valley – $2,699,000
The Carmel Valley zip code 92130 rounds out our top seven and was just barely under Solana Beach’s current statistic. Carmel Valley’s highly ranked schools, newer homes and planned communities help contribute to its popularity and strong pricing.
